"In the past, we thought the fiber in wheat prevented cancer," Takemoto said. "This discovery shows that there are antioxidants, in addition to fiber, which are responsible for preventing cancer." Wheat's antioxidants are found in the plant's orthophenols. These antioxidants are important because they combat the body's free radicals. Free radicals are charged particles which the body produces and which, if they react harmfully, could cause damage. "Throughout life you make a lot of free radicals," Takemoto said. "You want to keep them from forming because they contribute to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, cataracts, even wrinkling. High antioxidant levels mop up the free radicals." Antioxidants can be found in supplement form [see http://www.healthyperspective.com/proancynol.html for information on an exceptional antioxidant supplement]. The new research shows that eating whole grain wheat and/or wheat germ helps antioxidants from other foods and supplements to be absorbed more readily. daily bread...." Now we know another good reason for its inclusion
in our daily diet!

Professor Andrew Smith of Cardiff University's School of Psychology commented, "The physical benefits of a high fiber diet have been widely acknowledged amongst health care professionals for many years, however this is the first time high fiber intake has been associated with improved mental health." A fiber guideline of "age plus 5" has been proposed to set dietary fiber amounts for young children. This means, for example, a 5-year-old should consume 5+5=10 grams of fiber per day. Once a child's caloric intake approaches that of an adult (1,500 calories or more), 25 total grams should be well tolerated. (American Heart Association, www.americanheart.org)

-Bulk beneficial in reducing risk of cardiovascular disease and obesity Most of us take fiber for granted. It's an
often overlooked part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. A lack of
fiber can lead to serious health complications such as cardiovascular disease
and obesity, not to mention a host of digestive problems.
What to do To ensure an adequate fiber intake, eat a variety of foods, including more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and legumes. You may also take a fiber supplement. AIM offers two. Both provide 36 percent of the U.S. government's Recommended Daily Allowance for fiber. AIM Herbal Fiberblend (tm) is a mixture of fiber
and herbs that has been specially formulated for maximum contribution to
the daily diet. Two tablespoons of AIM Herbal Fiberblend (tm) contain
9 to 10 grams of fiber. Psyllium, which is the main fiber source
in AIM Herbal Fiberblend (tm), has more than eight times the bulking power
of oat bran. Psyllium is approximately 75 to 80 percent dietary fiber,
60 to 70 percent of which is soluble fiber. In addition, the herbs
in AIM Herbal Fiberblend (tm) bring you powerful detoxification effects.
More than 20 years of research and personal use went into the development
of AIM Herbal Fiberblend (tm).
The AIM SlimMetrix (tm) smoothie is also a fiber supplement.
Two scoops of AIM SlimMetrix (tm) smoothie contain 9 to 10 grams of fiber.
It provides a highly soluble source of fiber, such as is found in vegetable
products. In addition, the AIM SlimMetrix (tm) smoothie contains
vegetable protein, a special blend of oligosaccharides (food for "good
bacteria"), and the equivalent of 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries with no
added sugars. It is a low-calorie addition to a reduced-calorie diet
plan.
